Educator and youth advocate Samantha Chung, EdD, offers insights through a multidisciplinary lens to explore the intricate dynamics surrounding young survivors of trauma, with a particular focus on racial trauma. Participants will delve into the myriad causes of trauma in youth, including racial trauma, and gain an understanding of its profound impact on young individuals, especially in home and school environments. Additionally, strategies will be explored on how to effectively utilize the “4 Rs” framework to support young people in navigating and healing from racial trauma.
Dr. Samantha Chung is a lecturer and program coordinator in the Educational Leadership Department at Lehman College at the City University of New York and the Founder of Empower-Ed Teaching and Learning LLC. With extensive experience in the New York City public school system, her career spans roles as a teacher, teacher leader, professional developer, curriculum developer and educational researcher. Dr. Chung’s research interests are deeply rooted in culturally relevant teaching and leadership. Her dedication to these principles has significantly influenced her work, shaping her approach in instruction, curriculum development, and professional development. Recognized for her commitment to enhancing educational practices, Dr. Chung continues to contribute to the field through her research, teaching, and leadership roles.
